FOXTON LUNIOH CLUB.

INAUGURAL MEETING. The inaugural meeting of the Foxton Lunch Club was held in Mr. Hinds’ restaurant on Thursday. Mr. M. E. Perreau (Mayor) who has been responsible for the formation of the club, occupied the chair and Mr. J. H. Stevens (secretary of the Palmerston North Lunch Club) was in attendance to assist the Mayor with the inaugural business. Also present were Messrs W. E. Barber, W. H. Nicholas, W. H. Walton, Edmondson, J. Newton, S. H. Poole, F. A. Mason, D. R. Ogilvy, R. N. Speirs, R. Rangiheuea, G. F. Smith, Stone, A. E. Tongs, A. Osborne, I. Corn, W. S. Heyes, G. Ruffell, J. Martin, Giblett, R. Parkes, Hewitt, A. E. Scott, H. Osborne, R. Hornblow, W. E. Bullard, W. Trueman and D. Christie. Apologies for absence were received from a number of residents.

Mr. Perreau outlined the object of such a club and expressed his pleasure at: seeing such a large and representative gathering present. Every business in the town was represented and if the attendance went for anything it augured well for the success of the' Club. Mr. Perreau then introduced Mr. Stevens who gave a most instructive outline of the objects of a lunch club and spoke in a most interesting manner on the subject of “Gems from Lunch Club Talks,” . culled from his ten years association, with the Palmerston North body. At the conclusion of the address Mr. Stevens was accorded a hearty Vote of thanks on the motion of Mr. D. Christie, who said that the formation of a lunch club was in the best interests of towif and he hoped that the club would prospei*. Rev. W. H. Walton seconded the motion, which was carried by acclamation. It was decided to form a club and the formal resolution to that effect was moved by Mr. W. E. Barber and seconded by Rev. W. H. Walton. The election of officers was then proceeded with and resulted as follows: —President: Mr. M. E. Per-

reau; vice-president: Mr. F. A. Mason; secretary and treasurer: Mr. I. Corn; committee: Messrs W. Trueman, A. E. Scott, and Edmondson.
