SCHOOL ATHLETICS.

MARTON, FOXTON AND LEVIN IN COMPETITION. FOR THOMPSON SHIELD. Beautiful weather made conditions ideal for the first contest for the Thompson Shield, which took place between teams from the secondary schools of Marton, Foxton and Levin, at Foxton to-day. The Shield, which was donated by Mr. R. J. Thompson, is for the f best allround team in tennis, athletics and swimming, and the competition is to be held annually at Foxton. Marton and Levin were well represented here this morning, a ’bus from each town conveying the teams and supporters. Mr. Wilson (headmaster) 'and Mr. Hall (first assistant) together with Misses Holgerson and Bruce were in charge of the Marton teams and Mr J. Procter accompanied the Levin teams, which were under the charge of Misses Milne, Pengelley and tlooke. The headmaster (Mr. F. A. Mason) and Messrs Doel, Chipper, Burdess and iC. Procter were in charge of the local teams. Tennis was the first competition to be decided and the matches were played on the Tennis; Club’s courts, which were kindly lent for the occasion. Some good play was witnessed and a number of spectators were present to witness the contest. Games resulted as follows: Boys’ Singles:—Foxton v. Levin: Foxton A 20 v. Levin A 10; Foxton B 18 v.
