PRESENTATION
The managers of the local Presbyterian Church and their wives were entertained at the manse by the Rev. W. 11. and Mrs. Nicholas on Thursday evening, when occasion was taken to make a presentation to Mr. John Ross, who recently resigned from the , position of church secretary. In asking Mr. Ross to accept a suitably engraved silver cigarette case from the managers, Mr. Nisholas referred to the faithful and devoted work of Mr. Ross over a long period of years. Church finance, he said, entailed the sacrifice of much time and worry on the part of such an official and Mr. Ross had made personal sacrifices in this connection which were unknown to members. The gift was a token of esteem and a slight acknowledgment from the committee of the retiring secretary’s faithful and devoted service. Messrs Hornblow, Barron, A. F. Stevenson, Haydock, R. N. Speirs, and 'Couch each paid a tribute to the sterling qualities of the recipient, who was accorded musical honours. Mr. Ross in acknowledging the sentiments expressed and the spirit which prompted the gift, said that any man, of whatever branch of the Christian church to which he belonged, should not fail in loyalty and devotion. He was proud of his church and what he had done had been a pleasure and he hoped to continue to assist in furthering the welfare of the church in the/ future (applause). During the evening several interesting competitions were indulged in and the proceedings concluded with a tasty supper and a vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas.
