Mr. T. W. Hunt, of Foxton, was the successful tenderer for the (erection of the new Foxton Courthouse and work will be commenced almost immediately.
The Moutoa Jazz Party will bo held to-morrow evening. Free ’bus from Foxton. Mrs. Wish art will dispense frozen dainties and ice drinks.
Mr. A. E. Tongs, who for the past seven years has been in business in Foxton, has disposed of his grocery (business to Mr. J. Aiteheson, of Palmerston North.
William Arthur Hawkins, aged 30, for his second offence of being drunk in charge of a car, was fined £SO, and his license was cancelled for three years at Auckland on Tuesday.
On Tuesday evening the local Druids held a successful euchre party in Hamer’s rooms. Prizes were Avon as folloAvs :—Gents: Mr. T. Wjanklyn Ist, Mr. T. Fuller 2nd. Ladies: Mrs. C. Pritchard Ist, Mrs. T. Hunt 2nd.
The folloAving pupils of the Bainesse school obtained their proficiency certificates at the recent examinations: —Lois Brooke-Tay-lor, Dorothy Caske, Agnes Tennant, Ivy Withers, Eric Caske. Molly Ryan obtained a competency certificate.
The name of Cr. E. Parkin Avas inadvertently ommitted from the list of those present at Monday evening’s Borough Council meeting. Cr. Parkin has set a record in regard to attendance at Council meetings. He has not missed one meeting since first elected to the Council many years ago.
An echo of the recent elections was heard in the Palmerston North Supreme Court yesterday Avhen Mrs Christina Smith appeared before Mr. Justice Smith for sentence on a charge of having voted tAvice at the recent elections. Accused A\ r as admitted to probation for six months and ordered to pay £1 Is Od toAvards the lost of prosecution.
‘Members of the Wanganui Education Board visited the children’s health camp at Turaldna yesterday afternoon. There are over 100 children in camp from various parts of the Wanganui district. The camp is in charge of Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, two nurses and specially selected teachers. Open-air treatment, special diet and healthy exercises, have had a wonderfully beneficial effect upon the children. The camp breaks up next week. Mr. P. Foote, of Ashhurst, sustained a fractured leg as the result of a collision on Foxton line between a motor-ear driven by Mr. Donovan Raine, of Palmerston N., and a stationary motor cycle which the injured man was endeavouring to start at about 11.30 on Tuesday night. Foote is an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital where he is reported to be progressing satisfactorily.
Remarkably good attendance reicords were mentioned at last night’s meeting of the Wanganui Education Board when,it Avas decided to eoriimend tAVO pupils- on their attendance and'fonvard .them special certificates: Nine years of school without'the loss of a single'half day was the record of James Hughes, a pupil of the Halcombe school, and Christina Christensen has put in eight unbroken years at Whakarongo.
