THE HEMP MARKET.
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated Bth instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:- — Hemp.—Manila market displayed further strength and prices have advanced under active buying. “J” grade sold for January-March shipment at £3B ss. Quoted by sellers at the close at £3B 10s. Output to 3rd December 1,279,000 bales against 1,190,000 for same period last year. Stocks in Manila on 3rd December 133,000 bales against 151,000. Sisal.—Market strong and advancing. No. 1 for January- March shipinent now quoted sellers £4O 15s. Second grade closes with possible buyers at £3B 10s. Trade demand is moderate only. New Zealand have improved in sympathy with Sisal. Business reported on the basis of high points £35 10s; fail-, £32 10s; common, £29 10s. Tow No. 2, £22 10s; No. 3, £l9, Deceinber-February shipments.
