FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held last evening. Reports were read and dealt with as follows: WATERWORKS REPORT. The waterworks foreman (Mr. W. Neville) reported that during the month he had been engaged iri extending three water services, installing four water meters, repairing six hydrants, replacing packing in two valves, building concrete box round a water meter in Main Street, cleaning three house drains, repairing the well at the cemetery and grubbing noxious weeds. During the month 2,155;000 gallons of water was pumped.—: Adopted. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman (Mi*. G. Hunt-ley)-reported as follows: During the month the staff has been engaged in patching breaks in the bitumen in Victoria and Robinson Streets, and Lady’s Mile; removing tree guards from Park St.; cleaning around fire plugs and indicators; patching with metal in Avenue Road and Harbour Street; weeding water channels Main, Union and Clyde Streets; mixing asphalt in Council yard, grading Moutoa Road; asphalting balcony of Town Hall; mowing grass in Triangle and general maintenance. Various street corners were now being prepared for tar-sealing and the work of mowing grass in the cemetery will be proceeded with this month. —Adopted. UNSIGHTLY TREES AND GUARDS. Cr. Thompson considered that some of the old cabbage trees in Park Street were very unsightly and should be removed. Cr. Rand said it was time the guards were removed from around the trees in South Main Street. It was decided to refer these matters to the road foreman for hia attention. Cr. Wjalker stated that the corners recently tarred by the road staff were still soft and in his opinion they should be rolled. , It was decided to recommend the road foreman to have the tar-seal-ed corners boiled. Cr. Lucinsky considered that it would be advisable to have the grass in the cemetery mowed earlier in future. It was very wet at present and people going there had been complaining of the long state lof the grass. CORRESPONDENCE . was read and dealt with as follows *. — From the Department of Agriculture, thanking the Council for the loan of piping for experimental work in connection with flax research. —.Received. " From the N.Z. Gas Institute, notifying that the next annual conference will be held in IrYanganui from January 30th to February 2nd. —Gas manager granted permission to attend.
