RETURNED SOLDIERS’ SHOP DAY.

The Returned Soldiers’ shop day on Saturday was quite a successful effort and the funds -of the committee for the purchase of toys for the children of the returned men for Christmas, will benefit to the extent of £2O odd. The ladies who assisted the committee were Mesdames R. Byne, J. M. Thomson, Clarke and S. Dudson. The weightguessing competitions resulted as follows:—

Lamb, weight 34£lbs., divided between Messrs A. Wilson, H. Hughes, tk F. Robinson; sucking pig, weight, 231bs. 13 ozs., Mr. W. H. Coley; dinner, 36Jlbs., divided between Mrs. Crowley and Mrs. Richmond; live pig, 58Jibs., Mr. J. H. Purcell; cake, 171bs. 3ozs., divided between Mrs. B. E. Cowley and Mrs. Richmond.

A nail-driving competition was won by Mrs. J. M. Thomson (ladies), and Mr. Pearce (men).

The committee desire to thank the public generally for its support and all those who in any way assisted with the effort.
