THEFTS BY EMPLOYEE.
James Riiskin Robertson, timber yard worker, aged 46, married, and with two children, appeared in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., on six charges of theft of money frdm the Taringamutu Sawmills, totalling £lO4 11s 10d. Accused pleaded guilty.
Senior-Detective T. Quirke explained that accused had been employed for four years at the mills. „
The money he had received from customers and appropriated to his own use. After appropriating the last amount, on November 11, he had gone to Auckland, where he was arrested. He'had occupied a position of trust with the company. iMr. G. C. Petersen, who appeared for accused, attributed his client’s downfall to drinking bouts. Some arrangement might be made whereby accused could still be employed at the mill, and also make some restitution. He asked for a remand until Monday next, pending the makiixg of inquiries. "This request was granted.
