DUAL VOTING.
WOMAN COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE.
Two charges of dual voting at the last general election were heard at the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Messrs A. Headland and W. H. McKinnon, J.P.’s. The case against Edward Curtis, a gardener, who could neither read nor write, was dismissed, while a woman, whose name was ordered to he suppressed, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Mr. F. Knight, returning officer for the Palmerston North electoral district, submitted evidence on the charge against the woman to the effect that she had voted correctly once, and xvhen asked by another official for her name she gave it and was issued with another set of papers and voted again correctly, thinldng there were several issues, as in a municipal election. Once inside the booth she saw the papers were identical with the former ones, but voted to avoid further trouble . and embavassment.
Accused pleaded guilty to the charge and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. She was allowed -bail in the sum of £SO.
