UNEMPLOYMENT.

A MARKED DECREASE. The marked shrinkage in unemployment registrations throughout the Dominion was referred to by the Prime Minister (Right Hon. J. G. Coates) in the House of Representatives yesterday, when replying to questions by Labour members. It was interesting to note, he added, that whereas the Dominion registrations for unemployment in June last were 3300, they had fallen to 2360 in October, and at present stood at 1800, of which 380 were registered in Christchurch. A further reference to unemployment was made by Mr. J. O’Brien (Westland), who gave notice to ask the Minister of Public Works to raise the wages paid on relief works to the standard rate of wages ruling in the districts in which the works were under way.
