MOTOR FATALITY AT PLIMMERTON.
CAR GOES OVER BANK. Wellington, December 3. A motor-ear accident, which proved fatal to one of the passengers occurred at Plimmerton yesterday afternoon, when a roadster, driven by Mi'. L. White, Island Bay, Wellington, went over a ten-foot bank. The victims of the accident were: —■ ■Killed:-—Miss J. Lewis, a photographer, 48 Aurora Terrace. Injured:—Mr. L. White, a cabinetmaker, 202 The Parade, Island Bay; abrasions to back, to the right leg,'and shock. Miss E. Falconbridge, photographer, 17 Parliament Street; abrasions to right arm, and shock. Miss E. Rigby, photographer, Ngahauranga; sprained right ankle, and shock. Mr. A. Scroggins, cabinetmaker, 263 Taranalki Street; shock. Mi'. G. M. Russell, clerk, 216 Adelaide Road;shock. The accident occurred at about 1 p.m., when Mr. W. White was driv-i ing his car to Plimmerton. As he was ascending the hill near the township he attempted to change from top gear to second, but the gear missed. The ear ram backwards down the hill and over a tenfoot bank, coming to rest upside down in a creek. The car was badly damaged. People were quickty on the scene of the accident, and- the victims were taken to Plimmerton, where Mr. F. Barlow, proprietor of Te Coma House, saw to their comfort. The Free Ambulance were summoned, and was on the scene within forty minutes. Miss Lewis, whose skull was fractured, was dead before the ambulance arrived. Miss Falconbridge and Miss Rigby were taken to their respective homes, while the three men were removed to Mr. White’s residence.
A taxi proceeding to Wellington from ‘Trentham on Sunday left the road when coming through the Taita gorge, going over a 30-foot bank into the river-bed. A passenger named O’Neill, sustained a compound fracture of the skull, land was taken to the Wellington Hospital. He was admitted there at 4.45 a.m., and died at 9.20 a.m. There was another passenger in the taxi, but his name is unknown. He received cuts on the face, and was removed to Wellington by private car. The driver of the taxi, Ernest Walter Sergeant, was badly shaken, but otherwise was unhurt.
