PRESBYTERIAN CAKE AND SWEET PEA COMPETITION.
On Thursday, at the Masonic Hall, the Presbyterian Ladies’ are holding an afternoon and evening sale of cakes and produce in conjunction with a sweet pea and sponge cake competition. The growers of sweet peas whose blooms were not far enough advanced to exhibit at the recent Horticultural Society’s Show will now have an opportunity to compete. ‘The prizes are good and well worthy of competition. It is hoped there will be a large entry. The schedule is advertised in this issue. The sponge cake competition is in two classes, (a) with) butter, (b) without, and a prize is offered for each class.
In the evening there will be a recitation competition for boys and girls, in four classes, under 8 and under 14 years. Entries for the cake and recitation competitions are free.
