SERIOUS FIRE IN WELLINGTON.

FOUR PLACES GUTTED IN COURTNEY PLACE. Wellington, Last Night. One of the most serious conflagrations in the history of Wellington broke out at about ten o’clock to-night in the city block bounded by Courtenay Place, Blair Street, and Allen Street. The chief premises in the block, few if any of which it seems will escape, are mostly shops and warehouses, but the most important buildings are the large fruit and vegetable markets. The fire appeared to have a firm hold when the alarm was given. The following premises have been destroyed: Thompson Bros., pro vision merchant; Leary and Co’s, fruit market; Teagle, Smith and Sons, Ltd., motor replacement service, and Griffen and Co., merchants.
