FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
THE SUMMER SHOW. The Foxton Horticultural Society’s summer show was opened this afternoon by the President (Mr D. Christie), in the absence of the member for the district (Mr. J. Linklater). Mr. Christie read a telegram from Mr. Linklater, expressing that he was unable to be present owing to having to visit Wellington with the chairman of the Manawatu County Council on County business. The exhibition is a particularly good one and the entries excellent. The exhibits are tastefully displayed and present a very pleasing scene. This evening the Foxton Silver band will render a programme of music both outside and inside the hall. The school exhibits are a pleasing feature of this show. There are quite a number of exhibits, some of which, from the science classes are particularly interesting. There are four exhibitors from Rongotea. Another new section in the show is the photographic classes for amateurs, which has attracted twenty competitors. The champion rose in the show was grown by Miss Hughes. Mrs. A. S. Easton’s special for roses went to Mrs.'F. Wtaods and Mr. Heppner’s trophy to Miss Hughes. In the sweet pea section Mi's. Ransom, of Rongotea, annexed Miss Hughes’ trophy. The cookery section does not carry as many entries this show as previously. The first prize for rich fruit cake, made to stated recipe, was won by Mrs. J. G. Honore. Miss Coyne’s iced cake is a particularly fine exhibit end well merits first prize. The most nourishing lunch, for a child, an innovation this show created a good deal of interest. The section was won by Miss Sylvia Williams. The prize-list in connection with the show will appear in our next issue.
