GAS WORKS.

* SEPTEMBER FORKING. The following report was submitted to Monday’s Borough Council meeting:— The amount of gas manufactured during the month of September was 338,800 ft., which with the amount in the holder on September Ist 15,000 ft. made a total of 353,800 ft. During the month 286,700 ft. was used by consumers, 20,000 ft. at the works and there was 15,000 ft. in the holder on 30th September, making a total of 321,700 ft. accounted for and leaving 32,100 ft. representing 9.5 per cent, unaccounted for. Thirty-two tons of coal were carbonised, yielding 10,600 c.ft. of gas to the ton and; producing 7 tons of coke. The receipts for the month totalled £165 6s 2d and were made up as follows: —Gas sales (lighting) £24 17s 2d, heat and power £lO7 12s Od, coke sales £24 5s 4d, tar sales £6, services and fittings £2 10s Bd, miscellaneous 1/-. The expenditure for the month totalled £232 5s 5d and was made up as follows: —Coal £B9 17s 4d, salaries and wages £4O 14s Od, services and fittings £7 Is Id, tools 5/-. meters £26 6s Bd, engine repairs 3/9; general repairs £3 17s lid, cartage and freight 9/11, working expenses 2/6, Interest and Sinking Fund £63 7s 3d.
