VENTILATION OF SCHOOLS.
The following circular has been sent to teachers by the Wanganui Education Board: — “The attention of the Board is frequently drawn to the neglect of many teachers in the matter of the ventilation of classrooms. In all school buildings ample provision is made for ventilation, and during the past few years particular attention has been paid by the Board’s architect to this important question. In a large number of schools windows are placed in the corridor walls to provide an efficient system of cross-ventilation, but it is a fact that these are seldom or never opffned. “To the Board it appears ridiculous that teachers should attempt to instruct their pupils in the elementary principles of health and hygiene in class-rooms with closed windows, and with the air in such a condition that no child should he asked to breathe it. The Board hopes that teachers will give this matter of ventilation their earnest attention, not only in the interests of their pupils, but for the benefit of their own health.”
