ESCAPEE PUNISHED.
NUMEROUS CHARGES ADMITTED. Ohalaine, Nov. 13. At the Ohakune Court, W. C. Wahle, with several aliases, who escaped from the Raetihi lock-up last month, pleaded guilty to eight charges of breaking and entering and theft whilst at liberty, false pretences, issuing valueless cheques, and breaking gaol. He was committed to the Supreme Court at Auckland for sentence. For the theft of explosives from a person unknown he was dealt with summarily and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, and for breaking gaol to eighteen months’ imprisonment. He made a sworn statement exonerating the police from any negligence, /declaring that the lock-up was unable to hold him. He received no outside assistance. Ho continues to refuse to divulge the method of his escape.
