LOCAL AND GENERAL
lan Young, son of Mr. J. C. Young, and Stewart Carter, son of Mr. Walter Carter, both of Palmerston North, have been selected to join the New Zealand unit of the Young Australia League’s party which will make a six months’ tour of the States and Canada.
What must constitute an exceptionally large eel was discovered by a party of Invercargill fishermen last Saturday afternoon; in the Makarewa ‘River. The eel, which was secured by means of a gaff, was so heavy that it required herculean efforts to land it. The eel, tho weight of which was estimated at over 301 b., evidently possessed cannibalistic tendencies, for when it was cut open, 'five small eels, the largest of which measured 18in., were discovered inside it.
