MR, McMANAWAY’S S.O.S.
“IT is announced that Mr. Contes is coming here,” said Mr. McManaway, in his Levin address. “That is quitc'a fact, and I can take it as a compliment. The ..S.O.S. signal has gone out. He will be at Bulls at 12.30 next Wednesday, at Foxton at 3, and at Levin at 8. It has been said that the reason of his visit is to have me pull out. I want to tell you this: that if there is only one candidate it will be myself. I am not going to pull out; if there is any of that to be done, it will be by some other candidate. I will have such a majority in the northern end that I only need to he sup - ported in this lower end to become your member. My whole time is at your disposal, and,l have no political axe to grind. I have been an hotelkeeper, but I am not a candidate for “the trade” or for anyone else.” ““ REFORM REPORTS “ALL’S WELL!” We are in a position to state that no S.O.S. was sent out to the Prime Minister by the Reform Party in this electorate in regard to Mr. McManaway’s candidature nor is the Prime Minister’s visit connected with Mr. McManaway’s candidature, and further, that Mr. Linklnter has not, by word or action, forfeited the confidence of loyal Reform supporters in * this electorate. Mr. McManaway has a perfect right to stand as an Independent, and it is not considered that his candidature Avill seriously affect Mr. Linklnter as any defection from Reform • would in any case go to opponents and possibly (Mr. McManaway benefit to that extent. Reports from all Reform committees throughout the electorate indicate “all well!”
