THE FLOOD
WATERS FALLING FAST. The present flood in the Manawatu is the biggest for the past two years. Moutoa from Marotiri is one sheet of water. 'Stock has been removed to higher ground. The stop banks have given way in several localities, and a number of homesteads are isolated. The WJhirokino road is flooded and the overflow waters have reached to Mr. W!m. Ross’ -property near the borough boundary. A wash-out on the railway at Rangiotu temporarily dislocated the Foxton-Palmerston railway service, but the train service was resumed this afternoon. About a foot of water is coursing through Mr. Tamplin’s house at Moutoa. Mr. Rout, mail contractor, brought the south mail through from Levin, covering the flooded area by boat, and arriving a little after 1 p.m. At noon to-day the flood waters were falling fast. At 9 o’clock this morning the river was 9ft. above normal at Fitzherbert bridge and falling fast. It will be some days before road traffic can be resumed between Foxton and Levin, and Foxton and Shannon. Mr. Linklater, M.P., wired the Public W|orks and Minister of Lands this morning to have an engineer inspect flooded area.
