FOXTON UNITED SPORTS ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MOTOR CYCLE SPORTS. A SUCCESSFUL MEETING. CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT WON BY LEECH. Yesterday the Foxton United Sports Association’s motor cycle sports meeting was held on the local racecourse. The weather was ideal and the track, which was a little slippery at the commencement, soon dried out and was perfect for racing. Fortunately the meeting was unmarred by any accident. There were one or two minor spills but no one was injured. The attendance Avas particularly- good and the gate receipts went up to £2BB 19s, an increase of over £SO on last year’s receipts and a record for the Association. Unfortunately Percy Coleman and Arnott were not present but the racing nevertheless was of a high standard. Several competitors informed our representative that the course was better than last year and certainly one of the best in the Dominion. The Championship event was annexed by Leech, who rode a great race. The Foxton Silver Band was in attendance and dispensed a programme of music which was greatly appreciated by those present. Many very favourable comments were heard about the Band’s performance.

The catering for the meeting was conducted by Mr. J. Walls and was of the usual high standard. A slight sensation was caused in the morning by the copper fire in the tea kiosk falling out and burning .'through the floor boards and starting a fire in the flooring, but fortunately the outbreak was noticed before it became serious, and a bucket and sack brigade quickly extinguished the outbreak and the majority of the crowd present was unaware of anything untoward having happened. A child was bitten on the leg by a terrior dog during the afternoon and received the attention of the first-aid man (Mr. J. Martin), but the injury was hot of a serious nature. The dog was minding one of the cars and the child evidently ventured a little too near the vehicle. In conversation with our representative member of the Hamilton Motor Cycle Club expressed his pleasure at being present and added that the meeting was one of the best conducted he had attended.
