ECLIPSE OF SUN.

OBSERVATIONS IN MALAYA AND SIAM. RUGBY, Oct. 17. Four British scientists have been appointed by the joint Permanent Committee of' the Royal Society, and the Royal Astronomical Society, to take observations in Malay Peninsula aiid Siam during the total eclipse of tire sun, on May 9 next. The scientists will sail from England in Febiuary. One party will establish headquarters at A lor, in the Malay State of Kedah, and the other will establish its base near Patini in Siam. Attempts will be made during the eclipse to measure the temperatures and pressures of gases round the sun and to take important spectroscopic observations. It is anticipated that the Einstein theory of relativity will be reaffirmed by what is known as the astronomical test.
