VALEDICTORY.
Last evening a large number of local and district residents foregathered in the Moutoa Hall to bid farewell to Mr. D. Gilbert, who is severing his connection with this district after being associated with the Poplar flaxmill for many years. The evening took the form of a dance, the music for which w-as provided by Messrs J. Newton and J. Gower. Messrs M. E. Perreau and S. Barber acted as M’s.C. During the evening vocal items were rendered by Mesdames S. Barber, I. Corn, and Mr. D. R. Barron. Miss Delany played the accompaniments, and with Miss Piggott played several extras for the dance. At a suitable juncture Mr. S. Barber made a presentation to Mi-. Gilbert on behalf of the Moutoa residents, Messrs Bow-e and Perreau also adding their eulogies to the remarks of Mr. Barber concerning the guest of the evening. Mi-. Gilbert suitably replied. Dancing was continued until a late hour and an enjoyable time was spent by all present.
