CANCER RESEARCH.

DR, MAYO’S EXPERIENCE. • Chicago, October 18. Cancer, which kills 125,000 Americans annually, was discus-, sed by six leading authorities at the Medical Convention. Dr. Mayo announced the appointment of a committee charged with the duty of forming a cancer clinic in Chicago, which would be one of a net-work with Boston, New York, and other leading American cities as leaders. He declared that heredity was the dominating factor in cancer. Dr. Mayo believes .tjhat some day, it may be soon, a positive cure may be discovered. In his garden at Leiehester, Dr. Mayo has produced eoncerous growths in strawberries, and has trained plants to resist the disease and made others subject to it. “We find 65 per cent, of all humans die of diseases which killed their ancestors. Some day there will be a scientific breeding of humans and then cancer may wither away.” He added that when stomach pains were felt they should send patients to the laboratory for cancer research. Sores on the tongue must be given examination, if they did not heal quickly, and lumps anywhere on the body should be explored surgically.
