FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
COMMITTEE MEETING
A committee meeting of the Foxton Horticultural Society was held in the Presbyterian schoolroom' last evening presided over by the President (Mr. D. Christie). Also present were: Mesdames Moore, S. and A. P. Easton, Baker, Heasman, Woods, Misses J. Ross, B. Gower, A. Speirs, Hughes, Messrs W. E. Bullard, J. Ross, N. Cresswell, T. Hughes, E. J. Murphy, R. Horn'blow, J. Ross, and the secretary (Mr. W. 11. Nicholas). SHOW DATES. 'Considerable discussion ensued on the date for the summer show. Miss Ross said it was no use trying to suit both sweetpea and rose growers. The Society had promised to give consideration to rose growers, and should do so this year. Small growers had to be considered. The .Society was not run for one or two big growers alone.
The President: We will have to decide on a date which will suit most people.
.Miss Gower said that if the Society fixed a pruning date for roses .all the difficulty would be obviated. Mrs. Moore, in endorsing Miss Gower’s views said that Mr. Mason had recommended the middle o:f August as the pruning date for Foxiton. If this fact was made known it would possibly do a great deal of good. Misses Ross and Speirs moved a motion that the Summer show be held on November Bth and Mrs. Woods, seconded by ,Miss Hughes, moved an amendment that the date be the 22nd November. On a show of hands the amendment was carried and the date fixed for the 22nd. It was decided to add a needlework section to the schedule of the summer show. Mr. H. Hughes donated a trophy for the champion rose.
