Manawatu Herald TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 1928. LOCAL AND GENERAL.
A general meeting of the Foxton Amateur Athletic Club will be held in Walls’ tea rooms at 7.30 this evening. The recent fall of snow on the ranges was responsible for a sharp frost yesterday morning and a somewhat milder snap this morning, and as a result potatoes and other vegetable crops suffered. We are in receipt of a photograph of Mr. R. Sorbie’s “Awa Downs” milk float outfit, than which there .is no cleaner or neater in the Dominion. The well-groomed horse, polished harness, spotlessly clean white vehicle and milk receptacles indicate that the proprietor believes not only in a pure milk supply but that everything connected witli its delivery is on strictly hygienic ■lines. We congratulate Mr. Sorbie on his outfit. ■ Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., was reelected chairman for the ensuing year at yesterday’s annual meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board. In proposing his re-election, Mr. J. Chrystall commented that Mr. Linklater had filled the position exceptionally well, and he also extended to him best wishes in his political activities next month. In expressing appreciation of the proposer’s remarks, Mr. Linklater mentioned that he had nOw held office as chairman for nine or ten years. When Mr. W. E. Barber was re-elected treasurer, eulogistic reference was made by members to the careful manner in which he had watched the financial interests of the Board.
