Levin and Co. solicited the Harbour Board’s support to their endeavour to secure the same preferential freight rates on the Fox-ton-Palmerston North railway as were obtaining between Wanganui and Feilding and Wanganui and Palmerston North. Mr. Chrystall expressed the opinion that the Foxton railway should be afforded the same privileges as obtained between Wanganui and Palmerston North. At the present ..time a large amount of haulage.was being done by motor lorries from \\ ellington to Palmerston North to the detriment of the roads- over which the lorries travelled. Mr. Kellow stated that in years gone by it had been against the interests of the Railway Department to support the port at Foxton. If the freight charges were reduced, it would have the effect of increasing the volume of trade between the ports of Foxton and Wellington. The reduction between Wanganui and Wellington was for the purpose of allowing the railway to compete with the motor lorries. On the motion of Air. Chrystall it was resolved that Messrs J. A. Nash and J. Linklater, M’s.P., be appointed a deputation to wait upon the new general manager of railways with reference to the matter. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Mr. J. Linklater was unanimously re-elected chairman of the Board. Mr. W. E. Barber was also re-elec-ted treasurer.
