CHEESE FACTORY FOR FOXTON.
♦— PROPOSAL OF MAYOR. At last night’s Borough Council meeting the Mayor (Mr. M. E. Perreau) said that some time ago a proposal had been afoot to have a butter factory erected locally, but nothing had been done in the matter. He now had a proposal to erect a cheesie factory as cheese was to-day cinsidered a far better proposition than butter. He had been approached by several of the leading farmers and asked to have the matter of having such a factory erected locally, and as a result he would convene a public meeting at an early date to discuss the proposal. He had mentioned the matter that night as in the event of it being decided to erect a factory in Foxton a site would be required, and lie hoped that the Council would place no obstacle in the way of such a company. Councillors expressed the hope that the proposal would be taken up, as a factory locally would be a great benefit to the town. They did not anticipate any difficulty in reference to the allocation of a site.
