HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
GARDEN' COMPETITIONS. The president of the local Horticultural 'Society (Mi-. D. Christie) lias been in communication with the judge of the garden competitions in connection with the summer show, ad it has been decided to allocate points as follows: General appearance .. 50 Absence of weeds .. 25 Quality .... .. 25 Utility 25 Total points .. 125 Fruit trees in the garden will not count, the points will only be applicable to llowers and vegetables. All plants are to be grown in a natural way. No formal work. Large vegetables will not count, preference being- given to quality and utility. The judge is Mr. C. Evans, of Manakau. ‘ The president hopes that residents will take an interest in this competition, and enter. Apart from winning a prize, those entering will hav.e the benefit of expert advice from the judge which will be of distinct advantage to the grower.
