DAYLIGHT SAVING.

PROSPECT OF A BILL. Even though the session is now very far advanced, and will probably close down on Tuesday, there is just a prospect that more may be heard about daylight saving (says the Post). The Committee which considered Mr. Sidey’s Summer Time (Local Empowering) Bill, while it brought in an adverse recommendation in regard to that measure, recommended that the Government should introduce legislation this session to advance standard time throughout New Zealand by half an hour as from 9th October. The matter has since been considered by’ the Government, and it was learned to-day that there is some prospect of a Bill being brought down to give effect to the recommendation of the Committee. Although there is no certainty ahout the matter, it was stated that the chances of the Bill coming on were “fifty-fifty.”

Five Government Bills were sent on their way to the Legislative Council as a result of the day’s work in the House of Representatives on Tuesday. The measures passed were the Education Reserves Bill, the Canterbury Provincial Buildings Vesting Bill, the Main Highways Amendment Bill, the Auckland Grammar School Amendment Bill, and the State Fire Insurance Amendment Bill. Members of the House showed an inclination to get down to business, and there wa£ a minimum of discussion. In the afternoon the resumption of the debate on the report of the Local Bills Committtee on the Wellington Milk Supply Amendment Bill found Wellington members still anxious to defend the City Council’s scheme from any attacks made upon it by the nearby farmers, and as a result the report was “talked out” for the second time. New Bills introduced during the sitting were the Copyright Amendment Bill and the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Amendment Bill. The House rose at 11.32 p.m. In the afternon the Legislative (Council passed the Mental Defectives Amendment Bill, the Companies Amendment Bill (with an amendment), the Maintenance Orders (Facilities for Enforcement) Amendment Bill, the Motor Spirits Amendment Bill (with a minor amendment), and the Public Works Bill. Progress was reported on the Municipal Corporations Amendment Bill after a brief committee discussion, and the Public Reserves, Domains, and National Parks Bill was read the second time and referred to the Lands Committee.
