FIRE AT WESTPORT.

Westport, Sept. 29. At about midnight on Saturday, a building comprising two shops and dwellings, owned by J. Carmine and occupied by J. Wt King, fruiterer and confectioner and Mr. and Mrs. Shrives, the latter using the front portion for dressmaking and millinery, were gutted by fire. The flames extended to the Westport “News” office, which also sustained damage by fire and water. Bailie and Co’s, store on the other side, separated by some 12 feet from the burning buildings, was saved intact. The insurances are: J. W. King, stock and fittings, £350; Shrieves, stock and furniture, £400; West.port “News” £2OOO on building, machinery and stock.
