RUGBY FOOTBALL.

WAIRARAPA DEFEAT N.S. WALES. 'The final match of the v ~N.S.W. tour against Wairarapa was played at Masterton yesterday in driving and heavy rain-showers, which marred play considerably. The home pack was better than the visitors, however, and Avon by 17 points to 10. The greasy ball and ground mitigated against the style of the blues’ play, but had the conditions been good, a bright, open display would have resulted. The * N.S. Wales movements were nippy and it was only the treacherous condition of the ground that prevented their developing on spectacular lines. Playing Avith the wind and rain behind them in the first spell, the Shieldholders had the visitors mostly on the defence and in this spell did most of their scoring, the position at half-time being: Wairarapa 14, N.S. Wales 5. In the second spell the visitors added a converted try and Wairarapa a try.
