FOXTON FIRE BOARD.
QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Foxton Fire Board was held in the secretary’s office last evening, presided over by Mr. A. H. Clerke. Also present were: Messrs E. Parkin, M. E. Perreau, J. K. Hornblow and the secretary (Mr. R. Rangiheuea). An apology for absence was received from Mr. F. C. Gray (chairman). CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows : From the District Public Trustee, enclosing information re loans and the Wellington Trust Loan and Investment Agency Co., Ltd., enclosing certificate of balance to 31/3/28.—Received. From the secretary of the Fire Brigade, enclosing list of honorary and the expiry- date of membership. —Received. The tender of Mr. S. E. Cowley lor painting and varnishing the fire engine was accepted. ' The- secretary reported that the smoke helmet ordered some time ago by the Board had come to hand, and had proved satisfactory. The electric hand lamp had been ordered from Australia and would arrive shortly. The matter of procuring the siren for the engine was referred to the chairman and Mr. A. H. Gierke. It was decided to leave the matter of shades for the billiard table to Mr. A. H. Clerke and the chairman. Accounts amounting to £135 18s 5d were passed for payment. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. The Superintendent (Mr. A. W. 0. Stevenson) reported as follows: — “In presenting my report for the quarter ending September 30th, 1928, I have to thank the Board, more particularly the local members, for the consideration extended to me and the brigade since my elevation to the position of Superintendent as without their advice and assistance I would assuredly find the appointment and duties appertaining thereto untenable. “Brigade. —'Including the messenger the present strength of the brigade is twelve and in order to bring it to its normal strength I entertain the hope that at no distant date I shall be able to fill the vacancies. “Calls. —During the quarter the brigade has had three calls, the particulars of which I have already furnished. “Station etc. —'The station, engine and equipment are in good order. The new hose and accessories are to hand and in a few days I hope to have them ready for commission. “McMurray’s Gold Helmet Badges. —The McMurray gold helmet badges provide monthly competitions for all ranks and assist the brigade very materially in maintaining a very high standard of efficiency. Matters requiring attention are as follows: — 6 1. Two smoke-helmets and one electric hand lamp. 2. Siren for engine. 3. Siren for general alarm. 4. Two shades for billiard table. “The foregoing requirements • have the brigade’s recommendation for your kind attention, and I commend same on its behalf for your favourable consideration.” The report was adopted.
