BOXING.

* At Palmerston North last night Harry Casey and iCharlie .Purdy drew after a 15-round contest. The preliminaries were decided as follows: — Paper-weights: -S. Grennell (Awapuni) defeated K. Voitre (Awapuni); feather-weights: E. Oxley (Pahiatua) defeated H. Thomas (Wellington); welterweight: P. G. Stone (welter-weight champion of N.Z.) defeated B. O’Keefe (welter-weight champion of Manawatu). , Mr. and Mrs. Tom Heeney were present at the contest and received a wonderful ovation from a crowded house. At the conclusion of the bouts Heeney and his wife were the guests of the Manawatu Boxing Association at a banquet in the Municipal Hall. A large number of local “fans” attended the contest.
