AVIATORS VISIT FOXTON.

GREET SCHOOL CHILDREN . FROM THE AIR. DURING OVERLAND FLIGHT TO AUCKLAND. Yesterday the chairman of the local District High School sent the following telegram to Captain Kingsford-Smith: “Foxton school children will send up good luck and cheerio as you fly over to-morrow morning. Buckley knows location. Kia Ora.” The headmaster (Mr. Mason) this morning, .notified the children of the message sent and hoisted the flag at the school. The children were naturally excited and interested and at about 10.30 assembled in the grounds and kept a look-out towards the south. A keen south-westerly-wind was blowing and clouds being low in the sky, making visibility obscure for any distance. At about 10.50 a.m. the children spotted the three Bristol ’planes emerge from the clouds in the south, one piloted by Captain Buckley leading, and the other two ’planes following. Approaching the town the ’planes came down to a low altitude, about 200 ft. in line with the main street and dipped again over the school, where the children cheered lustily and the intrepid airmen responded by waving their greetings. All three ’planes then soared upwards and away to the north-west irn route to Hawera and Auckland. The children watched the flight until the machines disappeared from view. Teachers and children expressed their pleasure and delight at the generous response of Captain Kingsford Smith and his gallant companions in deviating from their course to exchange greetings. SAFE ARRIVAL AT HAWERA. The aviators arrived at Hawera at 12.21 p.m. where they made a \ perfect landing and received a great welcome from a huge crowd which had gathered from all parts of Taranaki. Owing to unfavourable weather the flight to Auckland has been delayed.
