BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council w& s held last night. CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows : From Messrs W. Cook and Son Ltd., offering a royalty of 1/- per 100 ft. log measure on all logs suitable for milling in the cemetery. — Accepted. From the Police Department, stating that the Department could not see its way to erect a light on the Courthouse as the corner was sufficiently lighted.—Received. From the Foxton Chamber of Commerce requesting the Council to grade the north entrance to the town, between the railway line and Russell Street corner once a week. —Received. From same, heartily endorsing the Council’s action in endeavouring to have top-dressing experiments carried out in the Foxton district. —Received. From the-Palmerston North Hospital Board, notifying that it Avas intended to purchase more land for the Awapuni farm next year. —Received. From the Massey Agricultural College stating that the Council’s report for top dressing experiment to be carried out in the Foxton district AvoukP receive the College Council’s consideration at an early date.—Received. From the Mosgiel Borough Council asking the Council’s support in asking the Government to devise a new method of raising the Hospital rate. —Received. From Mr. G. A. Hobbs, asking that noxious Aveeds on Council’s property be removed. —To be attended to. THE FLAXMILLING SETTLEMENT. The Mayor referred to the settlement arrived at in the flax industry as a result of the Prime Minister’s conference and the folloAving resolution Avas carried: —“That this Council desires to record its appreciation of the efforts of the Premier to effect a conciliation between the Avorkers and the flaxmillers.” WATER AND DRAINAGE.

The foreman reported that during rhe month he had been engaged in repairing storm drain running under Mr. Berry’s mill; connecting up one householder Avith the high pressure water, extending tAVO services, clearing three sewer connections, painting the pound cottage and attending to general maintenance work, by-laAvs, ranging, etc. The galvanised fitting on No. 4 artesian Avell has given out and will have to be replaced. This Avork will be done as soon as the fitting comes to hand. —Adopted. PUMPING STATION REPORT. During the month 1,275,000 gallons of Avater was pumped, the maximum current used was 28 amps. —Adopted. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman reported that during the month the road staff had been engaged iin dischargikig remainder of chips to dumps, carting and spreading metal on Avenue and Moutoa Roads, Purcell, Coley, Easton and Cook Streets, repairing breaks in bitumen and asphalt on Avenue Road, Johnston, Union and Main Streets, and re-erecting notice board at the corner of Union and Johnston Street. Most of the roads in the Borough have been trimmed up Avith the road grader and the trees Avhich Avere ordered for the Target Reserve have been planted. —Adopted.
