YOUNG WOMAN’S DEATH.
FOLLOWS A CRIMINAL ACT. An inquest was held at Wellington on Wednesday before Mr. Page, S.M., regarding the death at Wellington hospital of Adrienne Mary Stouppe, single, aged 20. Dr. Rhind gave evidence that on August Bth, he was called to the hospital to see deceased whom he found suffering from acute generalised peritonitis and had recently had a miscarriage. She died on August 10th. Detective W. M’Lennan said that he saw the deceased at the hospital on 9th August. He told her that it was alleged someone had performed an illegal operation on her, and asked if she wished to make any statement. She replied she had nothing whatever to say about it, as she did not wish to get anyone else into trouble. Witness said he had been unable to ascertain where the deceased was between Ist and Bth August. He saw Dr. Hennessy in reference to the deceased’s death before he left for Sydney on 17th August. He said he knew nothing at all about it and refused to discuss it.
A verdict was returned that the deeased died at the Wellington Hospital on 10th August, the cause of death being pyaemia following a septic abortion criminally produced.
