FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Foxton Tennis Club was held on Tuesday evening, presided oyer by Mr. R. McMurray (President). There was a fair attendance of members present. REPORT AND BALANCE SHEET. The annual report and balancesheet (as previously published in the “Herald”) were read and adopted.

In moving the adoption, the president said that the reason for the credit balance being so small was that no effort had been held by the Club owing to other deserving efforts being organised during, the year. The Club was badly in need of a pavilion, and he was of opinion that the Club would not make the progress it should make until one was erected. It added greatly to the social side of tennis as afternoon teas, etc. could bo provided visitors with a minimum of trouble. As it was, members did not care to take visitors to the courts. The rates were very high on the Club’s property and when everything was •considered the Club had made good progress during the past season. NEW MEMBERS. The following were elected new members: —Messrs S. Wright, Hewitt, Couch, Desjardines, T. Chipper and E. Petersen. Mr. W. Jewell was elected a country member. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron: Francis Robinson Esq.; President: L. C. Bryant Esq.; vicepresidents : Messrs F. C. Hay, E. M. Wyliie, M. E. Perreau, B. Gower, J. Linklater, R. McMurray, J. K. Hornblow, S. H. Poole, Wl Ross, W. H. Walton, C. Pritchard, F. A. Mason, W. H. Nicholas, M. B. Beygin, A. E. Tongs, J. Newton, D. R. Ogilvy, W. E. Barber; secretary: Mr. C. Procter; treasurer: Mr. W. Roach; secretary ladies committee: Miss L. Thompson; auditor: Mr. W. Trueman; committee: Misses Haydock, Stevenson, Denton, and Neylon and. Mrs. L. C. Bryant; men: Messrs W. Ross, T. Chipper, R. Desjardines, E. Petersen and Hewitt; match committee: Messrs L. C. Bryant, W. Ross, W. Roach; ground committee: Messrs W. Roach, Bryant, Ross and iChipper; delegate to Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association: Mr. R. McMurray.

On vacating the chair Mr. McMurray referred to the many good qualities of the newly elected President, who, he said, was a good player and an excellent worker for the Club. He wished him a pleasant and successful year of office.

Mr. Bryant, in returning thanks, said that the Club was one of the .oldest on this coast, but was not making the progress it should. The trouble chiefly appeared to be that it was a difficult business to obtain adult members. The junior members were very welcome and necessai’y to any club from a playing point of view, but adults were needed to push the administration side of the Club along. As things were s,t present the Club could not afford to spend money on maintenance, etc., and it was the duty of each member to do his or her share of the work which would have to be carried out by the Club itself. He felt confident that they would have a successful season and he hoped he would have the co-opera-tion of all members during his term of office. RESIGNATIONS. Resignations were received with regret from Miss R. Perreau and Mr. L. Ihle. GENERAL. Correspondence was received from various firms re the price of tennis balls. Decided to thank Mr. F. C. Hay for his consideration in connection with the overdraft. It was recolved to endeavour to clear up all arrears by November 3rd. It was decided to place on record the club’s appreciation of the services of Mr. R. McMurray as past President. Votes of thanks were accorded Messrs N. Ross and L. Ihle for past services and to Mrs. Neylon for donation of qg. trophy for competition among junior members. It was decided to approach the Mayor with a view to the Club being included in any future effort to raise funds conducted locally. It was decided to spread manure and sow seed on the courts where necessary and to plant hedge trees in gaps in the existing hedges.
