FOXTON’S NEW COURT HOUSE.
ERECTION AT AN EARLY DATE. Mr. ,J. Linklater, M.P. >v bas received the following letter from the Hon. F. ,J. Rolieston, Minister for Justice, in connection with the erection of a new courthouse for Foxton : —“Referring to your representations at various times regarding the necessity for a new courthouse for Foxton and the deputation which recently waited upon me at Foxton in regard to the matter, I have now to inform you that the Government has approved of the erection of a new building. Plans and specifications are now in course of completion and the work will be put in hand as early as possible.”
The Chamber of Commerce is to be congratulated upon the consummation of their prolonged agitation for a new courthouse to replace the present building, which is not only an eye-sore to our main thoroughfare, but is in a state of decay which would not justify any outlay on repair work. It has served'its day and generation and so far as the Justice Department is concerned its original cost did not exceed £3OO about 60 odd years ago. So that Foxton has not been extravagant in its demand. The Chamber is also indebted to Mr. Linklater for his interest and co-opera-tion and to the Minister for his visit of inspection, which convinced him of the necessity for a new building.
The site has already been re-sur-veyed and tenders for the new building in brick will be invited at an early date.
