BREACH OF PROMISE.

PLAINTIFF AWARDED £250. Auckland, Last Night. An action claiming £I,OOO damages for breach of promise brought by Pearl May, of Onehunga, against Thomas W. Churches, of Tamaki, occupied the Supreme Court to-dav. After hearing the evidence, .Mr Justice Reed said that the contract and the breach were both admitted. There was a certain amount of truth in the assertion that the parties did not get on very well. Probably had the defendant been a stronger moral character he would have broken off the engagement earlier. He had deliberately got rid of his assets and deserted plaintiff. I! was no case for excessive damages, but for substantial damages. Plaintiff would lie awarded £250 damages.
