DOMINION’S POPULATION.
The estimated population, of New Zealand, excluding dependencies, was 1,453,517 at Ist April, 1928. The populations of the chief urban areas at the same date were estimated as follows: —Auckland, 200,810; Wellington, 130,120; Christchurch, 123,370; Dunedin, 84,000; Hamilton, 17,350; Gisborne, 15 A 540; Napier, 18,870; Wanganui, 27,510; Palmerston North, 20,940; Nelson, 12,080; Timaru, 17,540; Invercargill, 22,910.
