TOWN HALL

The glamour of the theatre and the human interest that underlies the spectacle of the gilded butterflies of the stage—these are the elements that make “The Divine Woman” the most dramatic and impelling story that Greta Garbo, the fauous Swedish star, has yet appeared in. This new Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer production comes to the Town Hall on Friday, and is one of the screen’s masterpieces. It is based on the life of the immortal French actress, Sarah Bernhardt, and tells of loves, hates, successes and failures of a peasant who climbed the dizzy heights to success and became the toast of a nation, only to lose the only man she had ever loved. Lars Hanson plays the leading male role. Usual prices. A fine mystery melodrama of London life “The Lodger,” will head Saturday’s programme. ROYAL. If you should happen to be one of those persons who tells little lies just to avoid a little explaining “That’s My Daddy” starring Reginald Denny at the Royal theaon Saturday, was made especially for your joy. The picture is unparalleled -in its supreme humour. It shows just what might happen to a person telling a white lie for somebody else’s benefit. It plunges the benign Denny into a Labyrinth of situations which require the adding to the original lie to such an extent that Denny is no longer himself. Denny wrote the story and it proves that this jolly •English comedian is more than just actor. The story is perfect. Lillian Rich is exceedingly statuesque in her society role and is without doubt one of the most stunning blondes on the screen. There is a little girl in this picture called Jane La Verne. This, we are told, is her first picture but it looks as though she had been on the screen about fifteen years, she is so clever. But that couldn’t _be so, for she is just four years old. Prices 1/- and 2/-. Children half price.
