“THE MAN FROM TORONTO.”

BRIGHT AND CLEVER PERFORMANCE. “A distinctly bright and clever performance,” was the verdict of a delighted and keenly appreciative audience at. the Foxton Town Hall on Thursday night on the occasion of the Palmerston Plays Club’s production of the 3-act comedy “The Man from Toronto.” One usually expects “dud” incidents and gavkev awkwardness in amateur productions, but there was nothing of that in Thursday’s production. Indeed a high professional standard was reached by all taking part. Miss Ulu Hancock as “Leila Calthorpe” gave a splendid portrayal of the part, and established herself as a warm favourite with the audience. This young lady possesses histrionic talent and a stage appearance of a very high order, and would have no difficulty in making a name for herself in the profession. Mr. Amos McKegg as “Tergus Wimbush,” was splendid and he, too, is beyond the amateur standard. W. H. Wilson as “Bobby” acted the part to perfection. A very capable trio. Those who sustained the minor roles were equally successful. A word of praise is due to Mr. Warwick, the producer. Miss McKenzie capably presided at the piano. Foxton was delighted with the production and the company can be assured of an even bigger audience on their next appearance here.
