There is a possibility that the Tasman flight, may not take place as arranged, according to an announcement from a Sydney radio station which was heard by a Christchurch listener this afternoon. The announcer stated that Captain . Kingsford Smith, chief pilot of the Southern Cross and leader of the flyers, was ill, and had been taken to hospital. No indication of the nature of the illness was given, so that it is not known how long the airman may have to stay in hospital. POSSIBLE FLIGHT TO PERTH. Sydney, July 17. Captain Kingsford Smith has announced that he is considering a flight from Sydney to Perth prior to commencing his flight to New 7 Zealand. If the journey to Perth is undertaken it'will be a non-stop flight of 2,000 miles, and will demonstrate that the flight from America was not a fluke.
