GIFT TO THE NATION BY NEW ZEALANDER.

OF NAVAL SCHOOL AND SITE. London, July 15. A munificent gift, made by Mr G. S. Reade, who is at present residing in Auckland, New Zealand, has made possible the erection of a new Naval School at Holbrook, in Suffolk, to which 1,000 boys who are now being educated, at the Royal Hospital, Greenwich, will be removed when it has been completed. The buildings and equipment will cost nearly £1,000,000. Mr Reade will defray the cost of the buildings. His gift also includes a property of 850 acres, on which he formerly lived, and which belonged to his ancestors for generations. The donor’s action has been prompted by his appreciation of the gallantry of the men of the Navy in the Great War..

The Admiralty has let a contract for the buildings, which \vill take four years to complete. The construction of the new school will enable the Macpherson naval collection eventually to be installed at Queen’s House, Greenwich, where the school is at present.
