PETROL PRICE CUTTING.
FIRST GRADE 1/10 GALLON AT CHRISTCHURCH. Christchurch, Last Night. The arrival on the market of the petrol obtained by the Canterbury Automobile Association, which petrol is being retailed first grade at 1/10 a gallon, has been followed by price-cutting by other petrol sellers. Indeed, price-cutting began before the arrival of the Automobile Association’s product on the market.
Up to the present big oil companies have taken no action to meet this new completion, but at least: two retailers of their petrol have reduced the price to 1/10. The proprietor of a service station to-day stated that he had written to the largest companies whose products ho sells informiiig them that if they were unable to supply him with spirit at a price to compete with the cheap lines now 011 the market they would have to remove their pumps and he would erect his own to sell the cheaper petrol. This dealer is at present cutting the price. Further developments arc expected in the petrol trade before the position finally adjusts itself. *
