THIRD GRADE CURTAIN RAISER. FOXTON (21) v. SHANNON (Nil).
Foxton and Shannon Thirds provided the curtain-raiser to the Ho- . rowhenua-Rangitikei Bebbington Shield match at the racecourse on Saturday afternoon. The local team, although a lighter combination, were far superior on the day’s play. Shannon appeared to be hustled throughout, and couldn’t do anything right. Ncwth was the ifirst to score for Foxton, and Huff converted. From another attacking movement Chrystall set Newton off, and he made an opening for Easton to cross, and Huff added the major pointy, Newson was next prominent, and from a passing bout Easton again raced in. Huff again goaled, bringing the score ftp to 15 —nil. Newson was next prominent, and from half-way beat the opposing backs with a strong run, and crossed. Huff missed an easy kick. Foxton 18—Shannon nil. . Newson again scored just on the call of time. Tap Taylor failed to. add the major points, the game ending Foxton 21—Shannon nil. Both forwards and backs played with fine combination, Coley being the pick of the forwards. Mr Neville refereed.

MANAWHENUA v. WAIRARAPA
The Mauawhenua and Wairarapa reps, will meet at Palmerston North to-morrow. The following will represent Mauawhenua: — Williamson (M) 11. Darragh (M.) Westwood (H.) Roberts (H.) T. Parata (II.) Akuira (M.) M. Waldin (M.) Parsons (M.) Dalzell (II.) ■Conrad (M.) Tatana (II.) Galpin (M.) Crawford (M.) McDonald (M.) Reserves—Backs: Taylor (II.), Evans (M.). Forwards: Summers (M.), Heatley (M.), Miles (M.). The team is to assemble at the Cafe de Paris at 12.30 Wednesday. Mr Tom Parata has been selected as referee. It is somewhat surprising that the selectors should have passed over Taylor, whose kicking and speed would have countered Cundy, and in any case his alround play on Saturday was convincing. Westwood deserves his inclusion . THE WAIRARAPA TEAM. Masterton, Yesterday. The Wairarapa representative team to play Mauawhenua at Palmerston North to-morrow is as follows: — Full-back, Mormack; three-quar-ters,' Jury, Stringfellow, Tates; .five-eighths, Cooke, Cundy; half, Hart; wing-forward, M. Parker; forwards, S. Willoughby, M’Gregor, Reside, Reid, Fairbrother, Q. Donald, and M’Caimont. Reserves: Faulkner and Le Quesne. Roach and Irvine are unable to go. REP.' PLAYER I,DISCIPLINED. Gisborne, Last Night. At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union this evening, G. Carrington, the well known representative forward, was suspended for the remainder of the season. The referee, Mr. C. Young, reported that during the match for the Coronation Cup on Saturday he quickly warned Carrington for rough play. After the match Carrington adopted a threatening attitude, and repeated the offence lavter in the evening in the presence of members of both teams, even going so far as taking off his coat. One member of the union, who
was present at the last-named incident, said he considered Carrington’s attitude disgraceful.
