OBITUARY.

DANIEL WEMBLEY,AGED 83 * YE AES. There passed away at the residence of his daughter (Mrs. W. Nve, snr.), Park St., .Foxton, at an early hour this morning, one of Eoxton’s oldest inhabitants in the person of Mr. Daniel Whibley. The late Mr. Whibley was born in Kent, England, in 1845, and worked for a number of years on his father’s farm until 1875, when he sailed in the “Berar” for Wellington. Arriving safely, he proceeded to Wanganui, and was employed at the Tutaenui bridge for some months and afterwards brickmaking at Oroua Downs, having had some years experience in the County of Kent. The late Mr. Whibley came to Foxton in 1875 and was employed by the late Mr. Thynne on his farm, where he stayed for twelve years. He then purchased property on No. 1 Line, and took on dairying on his own account. In 1906 he retired from farming and went back to England for a holiday, later returning to Foxton, when lie took up his residence in Eussell St., residing there until a few weeks ago, when he went to live with his daughter (Mrs. W. Nye), at whose residence he passed peacefully away this morning. During his long residence in Foxton the late Mr. Whibley made a large circle of friends. He was a keen horticulhiralist and a member of the Foxt.'.n Horticultural Society. He was a foundation member of the Foxfon Bowling Club, and a life member, and was the most popular figure on the local green. His wife predeceased him some three years ago. The late Mr. Whibley leaves a family of three sons, Messrs George (Otorohanga), Fred (Shannon), Frank (Greymouth), and ihree daughters, Mrs. IV. Nye (Foxton), Mrs. G. Mallett (Hawera), and Mrs. D. Burrell (Paten). There are 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. The interment will take place in Foxton. THE LATE ROBERT FAIRE. An early settler of the Manawatu, Mr Robert Faire, passed away last week, at Foxton, at the age of 76 years. Mr. Faire came to the district in 1886, and for .19 years was employed on the Mana-watu-Wellington railway line. He then took up agricultural pursuits, farming properties at Linton and Monton, eventually retiring and removing to Foxton. Though of a quiet disposition, the deceased gentleman enjoyed the friendship c.f a large number of people. His v.ife and five of their 12 children predeceased him. The surviving members of the family are: Messrs R. Faire, Auckland; C. L. Faire, Taumarunui; A. S. Faire, Palmerston North; Sister Mary Berchiuans (Margaret Faire), Home of Compassion, Island Bay, Wellington; Sister Mary Ita (Ellen Faire), Convent of Mercy, Palmerston North; Mrs M. Mohekev, Foxton, and Mrs A. O’Brien, Christchurch.
