FOXTON D.H. SCHOOL
-COMMITTEE MEETING,
The monthly meeting- of the Foxton District High School committee was held last evening, and was presided over by Mr. J. Iv. Hornblow (chairman). Also present being Messrs M. E. Perfeau, D. Christie, J. Boss, 11. Hutchins, A. G. Huntley, A. W. 0. Stevenson, S. E. Cowley and the secretary (Mr. Roore Rangiheuea). Mr. F. A. Mason (headmaster) was also in attendance. Correspondence of a formal nature from the Education Board was read and received. It was reported that the Board was forwarding a new draught flue for the heating system, in the primary school. A report was received from the sub-committee re levelling and turfing the High School site. It was stated that the Borough Council had levelled the footpath in Duncan Street. Gravel_ for concreting had come to hand and the work was proceeding very satisfactorily. It was decided to apply to the Borough Council for a grant of £ls towards the cost of the work done on the Ihakara garden slope and to order two tons of cement for concreting retaining wall and paths construction.
The secretary of the Primary Schools Rugby committee, wrote soliciting a donation towards the travelling expenses of the teams competing in the Austin Banner competition. Mr. Mason, said the local school team was indebted to several local residents for assistance, but more was required to meet travelling expenses. Good work was being, done by the teachers in fostering this branch of healthy recreation. The Rugby Union had provided a football, but one ball was not sufficient among GO players! The chairman said the committee appreciated the work of the teachers, but a grant could not be made out of: capitation money. It was unanimously decided to donate two guineas from the picnic fund. Accounts amounting to £92 17s 9d were passed for payment. It was decided to ask the Board for a refund of £2 5s Gd for water supplied during the erection of the high school building. The chairman said application had been made by the Board to the Department for a grant in aid of water supply. Messrs Christie and Hutchins were appointed visitors for the month.
HEADMASTER’S REPORT
As June 30th marks the end of the second quarter of the year, I submit the figures regarding rolls and attendance* for the quarter: —
The inspectors visited and inspected the various departments of the school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of last week. The teaching staff is once again on a permanent footing—Miss R. Graham who has been relieving at Ihe side school since Miss E. M. Denton’s departure, finished up her. duties on Friday last and the newly appointed assistant, Miss Gladys McMillan, took up her duties as permanent assistant this morning.
Mr. Hart has exercised supervision on behalf of the committee of (he environment of the side school during the month, and everything is reported as quite satisfactory.
