TYPHOON VISITS MANAWATU HEADS.

A typhoon visited the local beach on Thursday night and caused minor damage among the crafts at anchor along the beach. Mi*. A. Ross’s launch Huia dragged its anchor and was washed ashore at the' mouth of the whitebait creek where to-day it is high and dry. It will be some time before the Huia will be refloated —possibly not before the. next spring tide. Ail the “Hatties" were sunk at their anchorages. The sea on Friday was one of the biggest there lias been for some lime. The scow Portland arrived in port on Thursday morning and was fortunate in reaching port before the big blow.
